The China Tourism Academy staff said on Sunday that as domestic tourism is still a major contributor to China's tourism industry for the next five years, Chinese tourism companies should expand their services to serve more people.

At the 2011 China Tourism Science Annual Meeting held from Saturday to Sunday, Dai Bin, vice president of the China Tourism Research Institute, said that in addition, Chinese companies should also meet the diverse tourism needs of the people, especially their core needs. Realize the long-term development of tourism.

Dai Bin declared: "In addition to outstanding team work, advanced technology and a sound business model, meeting the needs of the general public is the key to the success of all businesses."

He said that at present, most of China's tourism companies are only targeting a small number of consumers, mostly wealthy groups, which makes a large part of China's tourism market not developed.

“In recent years, China’s tourism industry has developed rapidly, but it is still in the early stages of development,” Dai Bin said. At the same time, he said that the era of tourism for the wider masses has arrived.

However, he also mentioned that in the context of globalization, Chinese companies face enormous technical challenges and fierce market competition.

“A very small number of China’s 21,000 tourism companies are able to use modern technology, especially information technology, to provide travel services,” he added.

Dai Bin also cited the rapid development of Ctrip.com, the leading website of China's online travel agencies, and called on national tourism companies to adjust their development strategies from a global perspective.

According to the five-year development outline of China's tourism industry, China will receive 2 billion tourists in 2010 and hope to grow to 3.3 billion by 2015.
